Fluvanna County Public Schools
A new high school, on Route 53, enrolled its first students in fall 2012. Starting with the 2013/14 academic year, the county opeerates five public schools – one primary (Pre-K and K), two elementary (one grades 1 & 2, and one grades 3 & 4), one middle school (grades 5-7), and one high school.
Private Schools
Five private schools are also located within the county:
Effort Christian School & Preschool, providing a Christ-centered education and the development of a child’s unique God-given gifts, for age 2 through 4th grade.
Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA), a college preparatory, military boarding school (with some day students) for young men, grades 6-12 and postgraduates.
The Light Academy, non-denominational Christian K-8th day school andK-12h home school cooperative in Fluvanna County.
Oakland School, a small boarding and day school designed to meet the needs of students ages 6-14 (curriculum through 9th grade) with learning disabilities or other academic challenges.
Open Door Christian School, providing academic and spiritual education with an emphasis on character and patriotism, for K through 12 students.
Higher Education
The University of Virginia in Charlottesville is composed of graduate and professional schools. Piedmont Virginia Community College, approximately 20 miles from the county, offers a wide variety of classes and degrees on its campus and at satellite locations within the county.
Other institutions of higher education within an easy commute of Fluvanna County include J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College in Goochland County, the University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and Mary Baldwin College in Staunton.
